WASHINGTON – Campaign to Fix the Debt Recognizes Senator for his work to reduce nation’s $19 trillion dollar national debt.

Recognizing his efforts to end the nation’s $19 trillion dollar debt, the Campaign to Fix the Debt has awarded Idaho Senator Mike Crapo with its Fiscal Hero award.

“Our nation’s $19 trillion national debt is strangling our nation,” said Crapo, a member of both the Senate Banking and Finance Committees. “Further, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projects that our national debt will reach more than $29 trillion by the year 2026. This unrestrained growth of our debt is not sustainable. Further, our national debt also presents serious national security interests that leave us vulnerable in an increasingly dangerous world. I have supported reforms to our annual budget process and have voted against wasteful, irresponsible spending bills because Congress must stop passing the burden of debt on to future generations.”

To be named a Fiscal Hero, lawmakers distinguished themselves by casting fiscally responsible votes; pushing their party leaders to make addressing the debt a priority; leading bipartisan policy efforts; and engaging and educating constituents. The award is presented by the Campaign to Fix the Debt, a nonpartisan movement to put America on a better fiscal and economic path. This year’s honorees include 26 members of the House and 21 Senators – both Democrat and Republican.

“Sen. Crapo has worked through a variety of channels to draw attention and find solutions to the nation’s fiscal challenges,” said Maya MacGuineas, Head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt. “While many lawmakers have chosen to bury their heads when it comes to these issues, Sen. Crapo has shown courage and leadership and has been willing to stand up for what is right for the country – even when it’s not easy to do so.”
